George and Molly’s education is built on an abundance of play and creativity, so they’re probably the best kind of kids to test out toys! Review: Mattel’s Creatable World
Creatable World currently consists of six different dolls, complete with clothes, shoes and accessories. According to Mattel, you can create 100+ looks from one kit. The RRP is £34.99 but there are various offers online, and you can buy them from Amazon, Smyths and more online retailers.
Creatable World dolls are absolutely beautiful dolls. Firstly, they’re extremely well made, with joints at the ankles, knees, wrists and elbows. This means they can move in more ways than the average doll, and it creates a sense of reality whilst playing with them or dressing them.
The kit includes:
- 1 doll
- 1 wig
- 6 pieces of clothing
- 3 pairs of shoes
- 2 accessories
George received a blonde doll with straight hair, and as with all the dolls, there is the option for it to have short or long hair. George loved dressing his doll, naming the doll Dan and testing out different outfits. He preferred the shorter hair (even though his hair is long), and I loved watching him treat his doll with such respect, carefully considering each garment and how he handled Dan…
Molly’s doll had curly hair, and once again she preferred it short. She kept commenting how soft the hair was, and she took pride putting together outfits for her doll. She gave the doll the name Sofia, and I think she really appreciate having a doll with very similar hair to hers. She has had horrid comments about her hair in the past, so having a doll that represents her ‘look’ is super important.
As they explored the outfits and accessories, we talked about diversity and the beauty of the world. Focusing on equality in a world full of diversity can be achieved through playing with these diverse and creative dolls. Watching George and Molly explore identity was fascinating, and it’s really interesting to hear them as they talk about transgender people, non-binary people, as well as themselves (they have many years to discover where they sit in this world, right?!).
The verdict was pretty simple: amazing, creative, inclusive and incredibly fun dolls! The Creatable World dolls are the way forward for so many reasons, from encouraging children to explore ideas, thoughts and feelings, to marrying up the doll to their own style/expression. These ideas, concepts and realities of the world around us can be discussed through the medium of play, through the medium of Creatable World dolls.
The items included amount to quite a lot in terms of value for money, so your child can get lots of playtime and use from their doll, instead of wishing for more in terms of accessories and alternative clothing. You can also switch the hair up with the longer wig, but we struggled to make it work (it didn’t quite fit/look right), plus George and Molly preferred them with shorter hair.
We’d highly recommend Creatable World dolls, and we’ve already had a request to extend the collection from both Molly and George! They’re a way for our children to express themselves, to learn about differences and equality, to discuss important topics within the world we live in without shame, judgement or ridicule.
I don’t know about you, but I think Creatable World have created a world I’d love to live in…
