Congrats Jake and Hannah Graf! UK’s First Transgender Parents

This week has been an amazing week for the transgender community, with Jake and Hannah Graf returning home with their little bundle of joy. The news was flooded with the news of the UK’s ‘first transgender parents’, and as we continued to see the outpouring of love for the wonderful couple and their baby, we felt so much joy!

Congrats Jake and Hannah Graf! Uk’s First Transgender Parents

Jake and Hannah Graf have been paving the way for the transgender community for a long time. When Zoey came out as transgender, we looked to them for inspiration, support and positive vibes. They offered this in abundance, and their love for each other offering hope to transgender couples around the world.

Now, I know I’m not transgender, but I definitely feel uplifted when I see any transgender couple work it out. I know not every couple will stay together (for a myriad of reasons), and people have to do what’s right for them in their hearts. For me, it was all about working with Zoey towards a brighter future, and supporting her through her transition, and it has been thanks to people like Jake and Hannah Graf that we’re where we are now. Watching them grow and teach the world about transgender issues, supporting others along the way; it all adds up to two very amazing people who are changing society’s view on transgender people. Jake and Hannah’s instagram accounts are a hub of information, with raw honesty and warmth. It’s the kind of account Zoey and I both adore, because it’s hopeful and romantic, yet they’re also changing the world!

Being part of a transgender family has challenges, mostly because some people in our society have a lack of understanding. It’s accounts like Jake and Hannah Graf’s (and ours, we hope!) that will change this, one day at a time.

Appearing on the television, being seen in the news, being visible as much as possible, it all adds up to the changes that need to be made in a society that judges us based on their own set of ‘norms’. Even telling people I’m pansexual creates a strange atmosphere, but why should it? Why should a trans person be treated any differently to a cis person? We need stories like Jake and Hannah’s to show the world just how wonderful it is to be diverse, but that we’re also all pretty normal, right?!

The world is slowly becoming more open to diversity and it seems that transfolk are currently making the headlines a heck of a lot more at present, which is fantastic. As long as we can all remember that when the negative and hyper-sensationalised stories are published, they are the minority, they are not always true reflections of what it is like to be trans or have a trans friend/relationship.

Stories like Hannah and Jake’s shines a positive light in the media for all transgender people and we are honoured to call ourselves a transgender/pansexual couple, supporting and respecting all transgender and other minority groups.

Congratulations once more Hannah and Jake, you are true inspirations to us all, cisgender and transgender alike. Thank you for all you have done so far and continue to do by simply being visibly you in a world that needs more diversity broadcast to show how much beauty is in it.
